Their upcoming first anniversary is cause for celebration at Latin Times Parlour, the newest addition to Park City's growing tattooing scene. Husband-and-wife team Red and Jessie Barbosa opened the shop on July 21 last year. "We were looking and decided to check into Park City. Everything just fell into place," Jessie recalls of discovering their storefront at 875 Iron Horse Drive.
"Red is self-taught," Jessie says of her husband's team leadership. "He always wants to grow and be something more. I push and encourage him to always get better," she smiles. Red cites the work of Nevada-based artist El Migrante and locally, Orem's Toonz Rivera as significant influences.
"Tattoos are a big decision, and client trust is critical," Jessie emphasizes. "We value everyone who walks through our doors. People feel free to express themslves and get comfortable. We meticulously go over the design to ensure we understand it perfectly. This way, we always deliver what our clients envision," she assures. For major body artworks, "Red dedicates an entire day and begins mentally preparing himself well in advance. His favorites include realism, creating portraits that capture the features of someone important to the client," she adds.
Raising six children together, Red and Jessie recently welcomed their eldest daughter into the shop as a certified piercer. As word of their high-quality work spread, "A tattoo artist from Ukraine heard about us," Jessie says with amazement. "He has come all the way to Utah to work with our team."
The exacting, precise, and highly personal nature of their work, including black-and-grey tattoos, human and animal portraits, realism, Latino tattoos, and fine-line tattoos, finds Jessie and Red enjoying their downtime quietly." We like the outdoors and going to the lake, but we also love just staying home!" she laughs.
