Objective 1 | Foster Local Pride and Respect

A strong visitor economy starts with a strong sense of community. When residents feel proud of where they live and see how tourism contributes positively to daily life, that support becomes one of our greatest assets. This objective is centered on nurturing pride, strengthening the connection between residents and the visitor economy, and keeping the community meaningfully engaged as the industry continues to evolve.

Progress on Initiatives

Objective 1.1 Develop Values-Led Community Programs to Inspire Community Pride & Deliberately Shape Community Character

Back to Top of List

Community events, incentives, and programs will be developed to inspire greater community pride for those who call Summit County home. This could include efforts such as a shop local program to support the local economy or community beautification events.

Mountainkind is our way of talking about the values we share: respect, care for the land, and the local spirit that makes Park City what it is. You'll notice this moniker around town as a steady reminder of what we believe in. One of our favorite expressions of that spirit is Mountainkind Morning, an annual event each December where the Chamber partners with local coffee shops to offer residents and workers a free mug and coffee, a small but meaningful thank-you to the people who make Park City what it is.

Objective 1.2 Create an awareness campaign around the importance and benefits of tourism

Back to Top of List

PCCVB will craft campaigns that share the value of tourism and its associated benefits with the community to engage residents as supportive partners. This may include information on the number of jobs created, economic activity, effective reduction in local taxes, community infrastructure funded through tourism dollars, and events and festivals made possible through visitation.

Most people don't think about what makes their favorite trail, local festival, or arts program possible. Through local PR, newsletters, and community storytelling, we're sharing the real story of how tourism supports jobs, funds public services, and helps keep Park City the place we all love. The "Our Town" initiative and the Wasatch Back Economic Summit are two ways we're bringing that conversation to life.

Objective 1.3 Identify and Amplify “Locals Only” Opportunities for Residents

Back to Top of List

Creating experiences and amenities that are tailored for locals will help residents continue to feel connected to their community, especially in Park City. This could include efforts such as free or reduced event tickets for Summit County residents, ‘locals night’ at area restaurants, or locals-only perks at local businesses.

Living here should come with perks. We're working to identify and grow resident-first experiences. The Kimball Art Festival's free Friday night tickets for Summit County locals is a great early example of what that can look like.

Objective 1.4 Create Volunteer Programs for Residents to Engage with the Visitor Economy

Back to Top of List

Volunteer programs will be created that are designed to foster positive connections between residents and visitors. These may be implemented by a variety of local organizations and will seek to connect with their unique audiences. For example, residents could be tapped by HPCA or PCCVB to provide local history tours or to act as destination ambassadors. These types of opportunities would give residents a chance to share what is special to them about Park City / Summit County and to talk in more depth about how to experience the community like a local—and love it  like a local.
