As former CEO of global athletic footwear giant New Balance, Park City Bike Demo owner Rob DeMartini knows success is about the fundamentals. "The core principles never change," this Chamber partner says. "Provide good service, treat your customers and employees well, make decisions for the long term – and have fun while doing it!"
His commitment to life on a bike led him to serve as CEO of Cycling USA, overseeing the development of National and Olympic teams. He's ridden repeatedly in the Pan-Mass Challenge bike-a-thon and other events. Today, Rob’s Bike Demo shop offers top-brand bike rentals and sales, ensuring visitors and locals access the best equipment and gear for their rides.
His busy career saw his family move often, but "we kept coming back to Park City for skiing and the outdoors," he remembers. "We were part-timers for nearly 20 years and started full-time residence when I left New Balance in 2019." He says purchasing PC Bike Demo helped the family put down roots and connect in their new hometown. He even persuaded his parents to move here. Soon, Rob’s son David and his family relocated from Colorado; now he and GM Ian Rugaber "run a very local shop, a place where locals can get all their gear, have an espresso and talk about local trail conditions." A daughter in Denmark joins the family to celebrate ski season and the holidays.
With decades in top management at Tyson Foods and Proctor & Gamble, Rob still leans into his CEO chops. He runs publicly traded Lehi-based Purple Innovation, a specialty mattress and sleep products company. Most days, he checks in at PC Bike Demo and "helps out on busy weekends." Two of Rob's three grandchildren "are already mountain biking," he smiles.
"So many people are from elsewhere and starting a new chapter here," Rob says of Park City's friendly atmosphere. "They've chosen a beautiful town, a place I never take for granted."
