At 11Hauz in Park City, the aroma of tender oxtail, smoky jerk chicken, warm roti, and sweet fried plantains tells a story of family, resilience, and Jamaican heritage. Every dish is seasoned with love, patience, and fresh, authentic ingredients—guided by the family promise: “We will never feed you, our community, what we cannot eat ourselves.”
Owner and head chef Sheron Grant moved to Park City from Brooklyn in 2004 and fell in love with the mountain town. Though the move was a sacrifice, it ultimately planted the seeds for 11Hauz, a dream rooted in her grandmother, Florence Harden, whose cooking once supported their family in Jamaica.
As a child, Sheron watched her grandmother create “magic” in the kitchen. She described everything her grandmother touched as “heaven,” and every bite as comfort and love. Through these moments, Sheron’s admiration for cooking grew into her love language. “Food is a joy to be enjoyed,” Sheron says. “It brings us all together.”
Sheron immigrated to the U.S. in 1986, leaving her daughters, Nyesha and Tanisha, in Jamaica until they joined her in 1991. Food became their connection to home, and their Brooklyn apartment soon turned into a gathering place for parties filled with authentic Jamaican dishes, live DJs, and dancing. The mother-daughter trio later began selling food at the BAM Festival in New York City, long before a restaurant was ever part of the plan. After moving to Park City in 2005, the family spent four summers selling out their Jamaican food booth at the Park City Sunday Market.
In 2018, at 58 years old—and without a high school or college degree—Sheron opened 11Hauz, named after the family’s angel number: 11. It represents reflection, guidance, and trusting the path God sets. “Anything is possible with God, the right team behind you, family, consistency, love, joy and passion,” Sheron says.
Today, locals fuel the restaurant’s success as the family welcomes everyone to experience Jamaican culture through food cooked fresh to order. Rooted in faith, family and tradition, 11Hauz continues to serve more than meals—it serves a legacy.
