Parkites have long embraced the relaxed sophistication of luxury designer Barclay Butera, and the feeling is mutual. “Park City is a rare balance of refined mountain living and effortless sophistication,” says the internationally known design icon. “There’s a deep appreciation here for quality, craftsmanship, and luxurious, livable spaces. It’s incredibly inspiring.”
That ethos aligns seamlessly with Barclay’s signature style: a polished blend of glamour and comfort that feels right at home in the mountains. His interiors layer pattern, texture, and color with intention, weaving together personal histories and meaningful pieces. The result is spaces that feel curated rather than collected, elegant, inviting, and distinctly lived-in.
Design is in his DNA. “I grew up completely immersed in interior design,” he says. “My mother had her own firm, so I learned from the ground up.” After launching his business in Newport Beach in the 1990s, his fresh take on classic American style quickly gained attention. Since then, Butera has built a far-reaching brand, authoring design books and developing licensed collections spanning furniture, textiles, rugs, lighting, and accessories.
Collaborations have expanded his reach. Partnerships with Lexington Home Brands and Jaipur Living brought his aesthetic into homes nationwide, while a bespoke “Yacht on Wheels” edition of the Rolls-Royce Dawn marked a first-of-its-kind collaboration between an interior designer and the legendary automaker.
Despite a self-described jet-set schedule, Barclay relishes downtime. “I’ve really gotten into golf!” he says with a laugh. “Sunday afternoons on the course with friends are now one of my favorite things. Plus, truth be told, I love the clothes!” Closer to home, he unwinds poolside, firing up the barbecue with family, friends, and his Cavalier King Charles spaniel. “There truly is no place like home.”
For Barclay, Park City continues to feel like just that. “One thing is for sure: our future is bright here,” he says. “I look forward to working with this community for many years to come.”
