When Anne DeSpain discovered Park City’s beauty and amenities, she also uncovered a hidden creative side, and Wasatch Gift, where artisanal gifts are made personal, was born.
The spark? A famous St. Regis Bloody Mary. “One sunny day, we were there sipping cocktails, watching spring skiers, and said, ‘Could we live here?’” Anne recalls. Eleven years later, they are still here, “and we still pinch ourselves.”
Anne’s road to Utah wound through Kentucky, Connecticut, New York, Seattle, and even Australia, where she met her husband and welcomed their son. Drawn to the area to work with the Sundance Catalog, she felt at home in Park City’s creative atmosphere.
Years in retail and product purchasing made her a spreadsheet guru; Anne says creativity was not on the résumé. “Discovering that side of myself has been rewarding surprise,” she says. Today, her baskets brim with Utah flavor—from honey taffy and salsa to handmade tumblers and totes—each reflecting our colorful culture. “I love scouring Utah’s little towns for hard-to-find products,” she adds. Favorites include Shooke Coffee in Torrey (“Shawn is an amazing roaster”), and local outfits like Ritual Chocolate and Ballerina Farms. “I support small businesses and enjoy introducing them through my products.”
Her custom themes for new arrivals, housewarmings, and even chefs are fun filled and popular, though clients can also mix and match their own signature gift. “I love crafting something special,” Anne says.
Park City’s positive spirit keeps her inspired. “I felt the strength of the community when we first arrived,” she reflects. “As a business owner, I see an even deeper level of support, like I am part of something special. Businesses supporting each other really motivates me.”
In free time, Anne, her husband, and their teen son ski and camp, while Anne savors yoga and time at the gym. Plus, she smiles, “I aim for our gifts to add a spot of sunshine to someone’s day.”
